The connotations of Dimmesdale name is "dim." Dimmesdale is dimming out like the candle on a flame. The guilt that he feels from holding in his sin is what's causeing Dimmesdale to dim/ fade away.
Chillingworth is characterized as a cold hearted man and his name depicts how bad he is CHILLingworth. Gettting into the character of chillingworth was fun and realistic because we had the chance to act how cold and evil Chillingworth really was.The theme of this tableu was dark and evil so thats why we decided to wear dark clothing and act out his character as mean and scary looking.
Though Chillingworth can be characterized as a nefarious charcter, I felt sorry for him. There was a moment in the book, when he metions to Hester that he knows that it was nearly impossible for Hester, as beautiful,as she is, to love someone as ugly as Chillingworth. Like nature in the book, I felt sympathetic towards some charcters, like Chilligwoth, but it does not excuse his evil ways.
Chillingworth, overall, is the pure and total epitome of the corruptness of a soul. Once a good, kindhearted, mannered scholar, he has sunk into the the depths of hell. He even goes to such extremes as going as far to become the incarnation of the devil himself. His name itself, Chillingworth, sends a "chill" up the reader's spine with every description of him and his deformity. You can see the themes "revenge destroys both the seeker and the victim" clearly play out throughout the novel. It essentially and ultimately kills both he and Arthur Dimmesdale at the end of the novel. Their bond is like that of a leech and it's, victim which Nathaniel Hawthorne even describes it as that. Once Dimmesdale dies, Chillingworth loses his purpose in life and died from lack of a purport. Playing Chillingworth was an interesting experience, especially trying the look creepy (glasses) while not tring to look like a Soviet Spy (trench coat, all black etc). Overall it was a great experience.
*giggles* Jessica is trying to look creepy but looks pretty. =] Ayesha is smiling cause she is actually evil.! MWHAHAHA <3 Ayesha And Ron looks like the statue of the thinking man.
Ron looks more like he is Dimmesdale than Chillingworth. Its something in the way that he is just looking up thinking about something and doesn't really look evil.
