Hester

Kiswana, Ysabel, and Alyssa

Which themes are explored through Hester's character? What was it like to play the heroine of the story? How did you get into character?

kissy looks nervous, Ysabel looks dignified, and Alyssa looks like she's taking a myspace photo. Ysabel seems to still be in character.

The Hesters look very proud and defiant..these 3 girls portray Hester extremely well.

I think the "A" is very beautiful for all three ladies

To become Hester, personally, I had to think about how this woman felt. She was alone with a child that constantly talked about my sin, she never thought her family would reunite, and the struggle she felt under her ignominy. I had to tap in to that mental state.
Becoming Hester was very interesting, even for 15 seconds.

Hester goes threw many different phases in the novel. When Hester is on the scaffold for the first time she is still very proud and beautiful while taking her punishment. But over time the guilt and treatment she receives from wearing her scarlet letter begins to take a toll on her. She begins to hide her hair, which is one of her most admirable features. The hiding of her hair represents how she's lost her sexuality, feminity, & freedom. Personally it was kinda hard for me to completely get in to character, because i had some funny people in my group who couldn't keep a straight face. But when i actually was in character i really did feel like Hester Prynne and felt the paini/guilt she felt. (This assignment was AWESOME!)
